Evidence for the price About what this price band usually documents
A brand that lives off its mark
Tommy Hilfiger sells a recognition mark, not a material. On a sweatshirt, the red-white-blue flag does exactly what the logo waistband does for Calvin Klein: it makes the brand legible at a distance. That the two now belong to the same group is less a coincidence than a logic.
Who owns the brand
PVH Corp. acquired Tommy Hilfiger in 2010, seven years after Calvin Klein. In its annual report (Form 10-K) PVH lists both as its load-bearing brands. The company was called Phillips-Van Heusen until those acquisitions prompted the change of name.
As with Calvin Klein, the founder no longer stands behind the design. Anyone who believes they are buying a person’s label is buying a group’s trademark.
What is disclosed
PVH publishes a supplier list with factory name, address and number of employees — for a group of this size, one of the fuller disclosures in our sample.
The licensed categories are again not covered. Fragrance, eyewear and accessories bearing the flag come from independent licensees. Anyone wanting to know where a Tommy Hilfiger fragrance is made will not find the answer on that list.
What we cannot tell you
Our own material check on a product of this brand is still outstanding. Until then, composition, fabric weight and place of manufacture stay empty in our directory rather than estimated — and the evidence score reflects exactly that.
Verifiable statements with a source, not a rating. We publish no ethics score of our own — for that, follow the external link.
