Arc'teryx

Arc'teryx stands for hardshells in a price band other brands do not reach, and for seams people photograph in forums. The company from British Columbia has belonged to Amer Sports since 2005, which was taken over in 2019 by a consortium led by the Chinese sports group Anta and has been listed in New York since 2024. The growth comes mainly from China.

Evidence for the price Below what this price band usually documents

Who the brand is for

Alpinists who buy a jacket as a tool, and by now just as much city dwellers who wear the logo as a status symbol. Arc'teryx sells hardshells, insulated jackets, backpacks and climbing gear, increasingly through its own stores. The price band is the highest among the brands portrayed here; the brand itself cites attention to detail and performance as the reason.

Who owns it

Arc'teryx was founded in 1989 in British Columbia and has its headquarters and design centre in North Vancouver. In 2005 the Finnish sports group Amer Sports acquired the brand. Amer Sports in turn was delisted from Nasdaq Helsinki on 5 September 2019; the new owners were a consortium of Anta Sports, FountainVest Partners, Anamered Investments and Tencent. Since 1 February 2024 Amer Sports has been listed on the New York Stock Exchange, with Anta remaining the largest shareholder.

How big Arc'teryx has become is in Amer Sports' results for 2024: the brand surpassed two billion US dollars in revenue, opened 33 net new stores and drove the Technical Apparel segment up 36 percent, with the strongest growth in Greater China. The Canadian origin is real; the capital and the most important market are in China.

A 36 percent revenue jump in one year says something about demand. It says nothing about what a jacket costs to make.

Where it is made

Arc'teryx runs its own factory in New Westminster, British Columbia, which the owner describes as the basis for detail work and product development. What share of products is made there and what share by contract manufacturers in Asia the brand does not publish. We found no factory list at either Arc'teryx or Amer Sports; that is no proof there is none, so we list the point as unverified.

What the price buys — our view

This section is an assessment, not a finding. The core materials are nylon shells with third-party membranes, polyester and down. That the workmanship is above average is often claimed and plausible, but we have not measured it. Documented are the ownership chain, the listing and the revenue; not documented are material costs, production shares and wages. Anyone paying the premium pays it for a brand whose growth the owner itself describes as a success of demand, not a consequence of costlier production.

What we can document

  • Founded 1989 in British Columbia, based in North Vancouver, own factory in New Westminster (brand page at Amer Sports)
  • Amer Sports since 2005, Anta consortium since 2019, NYSE since 1 February 2024 (Amer Sports company history)
  • Over USD 2 billion revenue in 2024, segment up 36 percent (Amer Sports results, February 2025)
  • Price level — our editorial classification

What we cannot

  • Factory list — not found at brand or group, not conclusively checked
  • Share of production in Canada versus contract manufacturers
  • Material cost per jacket — circulating figures are estimates
  • Wages and workmanship — no purchase, no test
