Loewe

Loewe is one of the oldest fashion houses in the world and has belonged to LVMH for three decades. What can be documented about its founding, ownership and leadership is here. So is what cannot be documented about its manufacturing.

€4,300, and not a word about where it was sewn

On 30 July 2026 we opened the product page for the medium Puzzle Featherlight, article number A510PLMX02-4974, priced €4,300. The description is detailed: nappa leather, nappa lambskin lining, baguette-shaped metal feet, dimensions to the centimetre. A country of manufacture is not among them. No country, no workshop, no region.

Among the large houses this is the norm — but it is not a law of nature. Christian Dior, same corporate roof and same price bracket, states “Made in Italy” on all six product pages we checked. Two houses, one owner, two different answers to the same question.

A price of €4,300 says something about the market. About origin it says nothing.

1846, Madrid

The house traces back to a collective of Madrid leather artisans founded in 1846. In 1872 the German merchant Enrique Loewe y Roessberg joined and gave the group its name. That makes Loewe one of the oldest continuously operating fashion houses anywhere.

Headquarters and ateliers remain in Madrid. That is a statement about where the company sits — not about where goods are made, and the two are easily confused.

Wholly LVMH since 1996

LVMH secured international distribution rights in 1986 and became sole owner in February 1996. Loewe is therefore among the group’s longest-held fashion houses — longer than Christian Dior Couture, which only joined in 2017.

Buying Loewe means buying LVMH. That is not a judgement but a question of ownership, and it appears on no label.

The man who left

Jonathan Anderson shaped the house as creative director for over a decade and announced his departure in March 2025. Since 2025 the creative direction has been led by Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez.

Anderson moved within the same group: on 2 June 2025 he became creative director of all Dior collections. Two houses, one owner, a move without competition — that is the mechanics of a conglomerate, which from outside looks like a market.

What this does not mean

It does not mean Loewe manufactures badly.

We have seen no workshop and audited no supply chain. This page says nothing about build quality, because it cannot know.

Nor does it mean Loewe is hiding something.

A missing statement is a missing statement. It permits no conclusion about what lies behind it — only that as a buyer you do not get to find out.

What we cannot

  • Which country the bags are sewn in — the product page names none, checked 30 July 2026 on article A510PLMX02-4974
  • Which workshops or suppliers are involved; the house publishes no supplier list
  • Where the leather comes from
  • Whether the manufacturing figures circulating in retail blogs are accurate — they are unsourced and do not come from the company
  • Whether the workmanship justifies the price; we examined no bag
