Louis Vuitton

Formally this is an origin statement. In practice it rules out nothing the name does not already rule out.

How much this brand discloses, and how much of it we could verify. It is not a quality rating — a composition line cannot tell you how good a fabric is. How we calculate it

  • Production disclosure 13/25
  • Linked sources 20/20
  • Own material check 0/15
  • Fabric weight stated 0/12
  • Country stated per product 0/10

A statement in the conditional

On 31 July 2026 the Capucines MM bag was checked, item M25386, €6,700, Taurillon leather with a smooth leather lining. In the expanded product description it reads:

Dieses Produkt ist Made in France, Made in Spain, oder Made in Italy.
This product is Made in France, Made in Spain, or Made in Italy. (German shop)

Three countries joined by “or”. The sentence says where the bag might have been made, not where it was made.

We consider this a type of its own, found nowhere else. The usual forms are: name a country, name nothing, or name only the upstream stage. Here a country is named and it is simultaneously left open which one.

Why that is understandable and still thin

A house having the same bag made in workshops across three countries cannot write anything else without maintaining the page per item. The sentence is therefore more honest than a blanket claim naming just one of the three.

For the buyer it stays empty all the same. The label in the finished piece names a country — the page before the purchase does not. Anyone making origin a reason to buy learns it here only afterwards.

For comparison: Velasca names the town of Montegranaro on a boot costing a fraction of this. Not the country — the town.

What the data sheet carries

The page carries a data sheet behind the page with item number, material, brand and offer. An origin field is not among them: no origin field is filled in there.

The three-country sentence appears three times in the visible text and not once as a field. For machine reading, even this limited statement does not exist.

A link that leads nowhere

The sustainability material describes a traceability concept but names no facility register — no names, no addresses, no count.

A document linked from there, titled “ETHICS-AND-COMPLIANCE-OF-SUPPLIERS”, returns an error: the file is unreachable.

That is not a statement about the supply chain but about the upkeep of the evidence. We list it under what we could not check — not as an accusation. A dead link is a dead link, not proof of anything.

Where the disclosure ends

Which of the three countries applies to a given piece.

The workshops themselves; no factory or supplier list is published.

Founding and ownership on the pages checked.

Group membership of LVMH is documented elsewhere on this site; the product and sustainability pages do not name it.

How we checked

We went through the product page and the company pages by hand, opening every collapsible panel individually. All quotations appear in the brand’s own wording; figures and fields were verified against the page source. The date of each check is given with the source.

What we cannot

  • Which of the three named countries applies to a given piece
  • The workshops; no factory or supplier list is published
  • The content of the linked document “ETHICS-AND-COMPLIANCE-OF-SUPPLIERS” — the file returns an error
  • Founding and ownership on the pages checked
  • We could not retrieve the page ourselves — the shop refuses our requests

Questions readers ask

Where is a Louis Vuitton bag made?

The product page names three possibilities: France, Spain or Italy. Which applies to a given piece is not stated.

Is that an origin statement?

Formally yes, practically hardly. The sentence rules out nothing the brand name does not already suggest. The label in the finished piece names a country — the page before the purchase does not.

Is it in the data sheet behind the page?

No. There is no origin field; the sentence exists only in the visible text.

Is there a factory list?

No. The sustainability material describes a concept but names no facilities. A supplier document linked from there is unreachable.
