On 30 July 2026 we checked the Avocatt Chelsea boot, USD 318 in the shop currency served to us. The product page carries a list of labelled entries — label on the left, value on the right. It includes:
Made in — Montegranaro (Italy)
Beside it, in the same list: “Lining color — Natural leather”, “Heel — Vibram mountain rubber”.
This is not a marketing line but a data field with label and value, ranked equally with lining and sole. And the value is a town, not a country.
Why that is more than “Made in Italy”
“Made in Italy” is a statement about a country of sixty million people. A town name is checkable: you can look up which makers are based there, and you can hold a brand to its word.
The difference shows in comparison. Loewe names no country for a bag at €4,300. Céline names none at $4,650. A boot at a fraction of that names a town.
We do not offer this as a rating. It is simply the finding that in this industry the precision of the disclosure has nothing to do with the price.
Nine of thirty in the description text
In the shop’s retrievable range, nine of thirty items also name Montegranaro in the description text, along the lines of “Made in Montegranaro (Italy).”
Across the eight product pages we loaded in full we found a place named every time. The field row, then, is the reliable location; the prose is the extra.
And still not machine-readable
The field row looks like structured data, and in a sense it is — it sits as a record in the page source. But it does not sit in the format that search engines and comparison services read.
For countryOfOrigin and countryOfAssembly there was no hit on any page we checked. We ourselves missed the row on the first pass, because our text analysis strips script blocks — we only found it by searching the raw source.
If even a deliberate check walks past it, so does every automated comparison. We found the same gap at Mango and Myrqvist.
Where the disclosure ends
