Portugal, on every page we checked
On 30 July 2026 we loaded and read eight product pages in full. All eight name a place of manufacture, and in all eight cases it is Portugal.
On the Tjärnö boot in dark brown calf, SEK 2,624 in the Swedish shop, the statement sits in the same specification list as the construction:
Goodyear welted construction · Handcrafted in Portugal · Made with premium full-grain calf
Origin therefore appears not in the marketing copy but among the technical details — in the same place as the welt and the leather type. It is the least theatrical form such a statement can take.
An error in our own analysis
We first read only the shop’s description texts and arrived at eight of thirty items carrying a place. That was wrong.
Checking the full pages showed that the supposedly silent items name Portugal too — just in the specification list rather than the prose. Judge a brand by where you happened to look first and you get the wrong answer.
We set this down here because the same trap applies to anyone comparing product pages.
And the upstream stage is named as well
On one of the models we checked, the same list carries a second origin:
Premium suede from British Charles F. Stead
So the tannery is named, with company and country, in addition to the country of manufacture. That is exactly the combination missing at houses that name only the flattering upstream step: GANT names the mill and stays silent on the sewing, Suitsupply likewise. Here both are stated.
What machines see of it
Nothing.
The page we checked carries eighteen product data blocks — and zero origin fields. For countryOfOrigin and countryOfAssembly there was not a single hit.
That is the same pattern as at Mango, and it runs through this whole segment: the disclosure is complete, it is visible, and it does not exist for automated analysis. Anyone comparing brands by machine sees a gap here where an answer actually stands.
Where the disclosure ends
There is no factory list.
The country is named, not the workshop. Which Portuguese maker produced a given shoe appears nowhere.
And the statement covers manufacture, not the material as a whole.
Where the hides come from that became the calf leather, this brand does not say either — the tannery is the earliest named point. We described the same limit at Asket, though there it is expressly flagged.
