A large canvas tote in cotton canvas, $228. No country of manufacture appears with it — neither in the visible text nor in the data sheet behind the page.
That is the most common finding in our research and no scandal in itself. There is no duty to state the country of manufacture online.
It becomes striking next to its own group: Kenzo writes “Made in Portugal”, Berluti carries a line of its own for it, Fendi publishes its suppliers. Four houses, one owner, four answers.
And the owner is changing right now
On 14 May 2026 the sale to WHP Global, with the G-III Apparel Group as co-owner, was announced. The statement reads:
The transaction is expected to close before year end.
LVMH had held the majority since 1997. Marc Jacobs himself remains, according to the same statement, “Founder and Creative Director”.
For our question this is more than a footnote. The ownership entry on this page is a snapshot, and the moment is running out. So we write down what holds, and that it is about to change — rather than freezing a state that will be wrong within months.
A founding year nobody pins down
One more thing is notable: even the founding year is not settled. The figures range from 1984 through 1986 to 1993, depending on whether you count the first collection, the incorporation or the start of today’s label.
We give 1984 following the company statement and note that other counts circulate. If even this date is disputed, that says something about how firm brand narratives are in general.
