Two cases, two sentences
On 30 July 2026 we examined two Rimowa product pages. For the Classic cabin case in aluminium, article 97390037, €1,800, the description reads: “RIMOWA luggage is manufactured in Germany.”
For the Essential Check-In L in polycarbonate, article 83273751, €940, it reads instead: “Designed in Germany. Made in our RIMOWA factories.”
The second sentence names no country. It only sounds as though it does.
Why that is a difference
“Designed in Germany” is a statement about design, not manufacturing. “Made in our RIMOWA factories” names no place — factories can stand anywhere. LVMH states three production sites worldwide for Rimowa without naming the countries.
Both sentences are, taken individually, correctly worded. What is notable is what happens between them: the brand’s reputation fills the gap. Anyone who knows the aluminium line reads the Germany claim into the polycarbonate line, although it does not appear there.
The company
Paul Morszeck founded the company in Cologne in 1898. The grooved aluminium case has been its signature since the 1950s. LVMH acquired eighty percent of the shares in 2016 for €640 million. Beatrice Monguidi has led the company since 1 June 2026.
How we obtained the pages
This belongs in the open. rimowa.com refuses access to our connection entirely — retrieval tool and regular browser alike, even for the file intended for search engines. The two product pages therefore come from dated archive copies of 11 and 19 April 2026.
Archive copies are verifiable, but they are not today’s state. Should Rimowa have changed the wording since, we would not know.
What stays open
Where the three production sites are.
Neither Rimowa nor LVMH names them. That one site is in Germany follows from the aluminium line’s statement; where the other two stand appears nowhere.
A supplier list.
Rimowa’s own California statement points to a code of conduct available “upon request”. We found no published list of plants or suppliers.

Is Rimowa luggage made in Germany?
For the aluminium line the product page says so: “RIMOWA luggage is manufactured in Germany.” For the polycarbonate line it does not — there it reads “Designed in Germany. Made in our RIMOWA factories.”, which names no country.
What is the difference between “Designed in Germany” and “made in Germany”?
One refers to design, the other to manufacturing. A product can be designed in Germany and made elsewhere; “Designed in Germany” implies no place of manufacture.
