A name, a street, a number

A pima cotton t-shirt, navy, €14.99. Open the “Materials” panel on the product page, call up the supplier information inside it, and instead of the usual country you find this:

Site name, full address, order of magnitude of the workforce. For this shirt, not for the range.

For comparison, and this is the point: Loewe names no country on a €4,300 bag. Céline names none at $4,650. A shirt costing about as much as lunch names the hall.

And beside it, an empty field

Right next to it sits the gap, and it is striking because it is so visible.

The page carries a field labelled “country of manufacture”. On this item it is empty. What appears instead is a note: if several countries are listed above, the item was made in one of them — the exact country can be found on the label of the piece you buy.

That is, after the purchase.

So the factory block does not fully answer the question. It names a supplier, not necessarily the place where this particular piece was sewn. We record it as what it is: a supplier statement, and an unusually concrete one.

1,510 rows, refreshed quarterly

The corporate site carries a public supplier list to download. It runs to roughly 1,510 rows, and the columns go far beyond name and address: type of relationship, years of cooperation, facility type, product type, material certifications, number of workers, share of female workers, whether a trade union exists.

The group puts the whole at more than 554 suppliers and over 969 tier 1 factories, and states the list is updated quarterly. It rests on a pledge to disclose name, address, product type and worker numbers.

Measured against everything else in this research, that is a great deal. Bestseller adds the second tier on top; nobody else comes close.

For machines, nothing again

Behind the page sits a data sheet from which search engines and comparison services draw their details. No origin field is filled in there.

So what holds for nearly all holds here too: the disclosure exists, it is exceptionally detailed — and it appears in no automated comparison.

Where the disclosure ends

The country of manufacture of this particular piece. The field for it stays empty and points to the label.

The link between facility and item. A supplier is named, not the sewing floor.

The facility count in the open database. The group is registered there, but the query could not be run without an account.

How we checked

We went through the product page and the corporate pages by hand on 1 August 2026, opening every collapsible panel individually — the supplier statement sits two clicks deep. All quotations appear in the original wording. The shirt we checked carries item number 1101074049 and is stated as 100% cotton.
